Postcards from the edge

Big brand names have been popping up on the edge of Marrakech this year – Baglioni followed Delano and Taj. Grace Hotels was the first to move further afield, with just 15 suites in the little-known village of Tamesloht. And now so-called ‘Peasant Palace’ Le Palais Paysan has opened here.

French designer Ludo Petit has taken inspiration from Marrakech’s geometric pink city walls and incorporated the colouring into the 16 cubic suites. The rooms are refreshingly un-Moroccan in design: pale olive walls, contemporary furnishings in muted grey, and not a lantern in sight.

There’s a Moroccan restaurant, a spa and a hammam for soaping, steaming and scrubbing. A hot tub and a long swimming pool have staggering views of the Atlas Mountains.
