Bulgari has designs on London

Bulgari unveiled plans today for its new hotel in London. On Knightsbridge, the super-luxurious hotel is currently being built from scratch. It will have 12 storeys – half of them underground – and just 85 rooms and suites, from 43 square metres up to vast two-bedroom apartments.

The London hotel is the company’s third, and will be decorated along similar classic-contemporary lines to its Milan original (the second, which opened in 2006, is in Bali). Like the brand’s jewellery and accessories, the decor will be understated and elegant, created from high quality materials: marble, silver (a key element of the interior, reflecting the brand’s heritage: Sotirio Bulgari was a Greek silversmith who went to Italy in the 1880s to seek his fortune, and found it). The furniture will be modern, made in Italy, as well as a few fine antique pieces to add character to each room.

Facilities-wise, it’s a case of doing one thing, and doing it well: one restaurant serving gourmet Italian food; one pool, 25 metres long; one ballroom and one state-of-the-art Bulgari spa, a collaboration with Espa.

Prices are yet to be released, but the hotel is pitching itself as one of the top handful in the country. It is scheduled to open April next year.
