A luxury lodge for autumn breaks

A luxury lodge for autumn breaks

Awarding-winning country hotel the Gilpin is set to open a new six-suite lake house in early September.

The lake house – built in 1919 – has been used by the Cunliffe family for over five generations, but now guests can enjoy a stay at the beautiful house for any occasion.

Located just two miles from Lake Windermere, the lodge is surrounded by a private lake – the Knipe Tam – and a sprawling one hundred acres of woodland and hills, to which the guests have exclusive access.

Outside guests will find a quant traditional boat house complete with a Victorian rowing boat, druid circle and kitchen gardens, plus – should the surrounding countryside of the picturesque Lake District prove too wet or cold – you will also be able to also relax in the indoor swimming pool or sauna. Guests can order a spa treatment in their suites and then – taking the trouble out of where to eat – a chauffeur can be called to take guests to the Gilpin restaurant where Chef Russell Plowman – who trained under Michelin-starred chef Alain Roux – offers up his award-winning food. Sounds like the perfect way to start autumn in style…
