A South Australian food safari

A South Australian food safari

Kangaroo Island’s first ever food safari will be held at Southern Ocean Lodge, which featured in the Gold List 2011, in August this year.

Bringing local producers and food legends Maggie Beer and Simon Bryant together with guests, the culinary journey takes place over five nights, and will include an itinerary of food-and wine-related excursions.

Along the safari guests taste produce at the source, be that oysters straight from the American River or Ligurian honey from the hive, and meet the characters behind each farm. The trip also includes a working experience at the Sheep Milk Dairy, a visit to the green pastures of Southrock Lamb and the groves of KI Olive Oi, and cooking demonstrations.

Staying in a luxury suite, guests have access to the hotel’s facilities and Chef Jed Archdeaco’s top-class restaurant, as well as the opportunity to explore the island’s many inhabitants – Kangaroo Island is known as the Galapagos of Australia.

The food safari runs 27 August – 1 September 2011. Price from $4,950 per person, including return airfare with Regional Express between Adelaide and Kingscote, Kangaroo Island. To book call (61) 2 9918 4355 or email reserve@baillielodges.com.au
