Through the lens of a fashion king

For anyone interested in fashion and photography, the new exhibition featuring work by Karl Lagerfeld – the creative director of fashion house Chanel – is a must.

The exhibition – which is held at Maison Europeene de la Photographie in Paris between 10 September and 15 October 2010 – is a first for Lagerfeld, who has become a renowned photographer as well as a legendary designer, and whose photographic work includes all of Chanel’s advertising campaigns as well several photo books.

The exhibition at La Maison Europeene de la Photographie is made up of a collection of Lagerfeld’s photos and includes some taken for some the most prestigious magazines in the world. The exhibits are divided into two parts: the first shows Lagerfeld’s interpretation of traditional themes – portraits, fashion photography, the countryside and architecture – while the second part offers a glimpse of a more experimental side.

There is no doubt that the camera is an important tool for Lagerfeld – the designer has said he sees the world and fashion through the lens of his camera, and that he has become more successful as a designer as a result of taking photos.
