Ping into action

Leave your trainers at home, there’s much more interesting ways to get active when you’re away than pounding the treadmill in the hotel gym. We already love ten-pin bowling in the Biscuit Pin at Shoreditch House, and with their new rooms you don’t need to go far to sleep after hitting the lanes. Active fun is what it is all about and now design hotel and celeb-hangout Mondrian Los Angeles (pictured) has teamed up with hip New York ping-pong club SPiN (co-owned by Oscar-winning actress Susan Sarandon no less) to bring the table-top sport to the West Coast of America. With two tables in their ADCB lounge just off Sunset Strip, you can sip a cocktail and celeb-spot while you try your hand with the paddle.

And if your next hotel hasn’t caught onto trend just yet don’t fear: Londoners can get a chance to hone their bat skills with Ping! – a festival of table tennis on the streets of the capital. Bringing 100 table tennis tables to landmarks, squares, shopping centres and even Heathrow Airport (head to Terminal 3 if your flight is delayed), look out for the ‘Stop and Play’ markings and pick up you bat from the side of the table. For even more ping pong fun head down to the pop-up Ping Pong Parlour on Marshall Street for lessons, tournaments and more.
