Christie’s launches app to Venice Biennale

Christie’s, the world’s leading art auction house, has created a complete guide to the Venice Art Biennale for art lovers to enjoy – via their iPhones.

The new app aims to revolutionise the art consumer’s experience at one of the biggest contemporary arts fair in the world.

Also available for iPads, the app geo-locates all the official Venice Biennale exhibitions as well as the fringe events taking place around it.

Packed with helpful functions, the app includes everything from an events calendar, to art experts’ tips on what to see and useful numbers and listings for hotels and restaurants. The handy GPS utility means travellers will not get lost in the art fair; instead, the app can locate you on a map and use the information to direct you to your next destination.

Social networking also feeds into the app, allowing travellers to post their favourites onto Facebook and Twitter as well as letting them follow what is happening on the ground at the Biennale around them.

The 54th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale will take place between the 2 June to 26 November, closing during August.

This year, it is curated by art historian and critic Bice Curiger. The exhibition ILLUMInazioni – ILLUMInations features 83 artists from all over the world, as well as 89 National Participations, a record for the Biennale. The exhibition will be housed in the historical pavilions in the Giardini, and in the Arsenale, as well as in other locations around the city.
