Great rates on luxury rural retreats

The last few months may have seemed like a disaster for the travel industry – with the ash cloud and strikes forcing flight cancellations – but here in the UK, business is booming. Increasing numbers of people are choosing to holiday at home rather than travelling abroad this year, and competition to find a great rural ‘staycation’ is hotter than ever.

As a result, luxury groups – like Welsh company Sheepskin – are adding more great value properties to their portfolio in some of the country’s most secluded areas. Because of popular demand, Sheepskin’s chic collection has now expanded to include four new rustic cottages and grand houses outside of Wales, all of which are now available to rent with complimentary concierge services and tailor-made itineraries.

Those looking to fully immerse themselves in the calm of the British countryside can now stay at one of two stunning new self-catering cottages in a remote area near Tavistock in Dartmoor. The rustic pair sleep four people between them and are positioned just a short distance apart, making them an ideal destination for a weekend retreat with friends. Both feature large, open-plan living areas and log stoves, as well as luxurious furnishings and self catering essentials. A three-night stay at the Tamar Cottages costs from ?560, and seven-night stay costs from ?1,240.

For a quirky property with a sea view, head to the Woodenstone House in Ilfracombe, Devon. The grand Victorian building has seven huge bedrooms with room for 12, a large dining area and a sizeable lounge, as well as a portable BBQ and a beautifully kept garden. Prices start from ?1,980 for three nights and ?3,980 for seven nights.

Shell House in Porlock Weir in Exmoor is also available to rent. The light and airy beachside property boasts an open plan living area, a huge cook’s kitchen, four large bedrooms, a private cinema and a games room. The house is just a short stroll from local amenities, including two great restaurants and a real ale pub. Shell House sleeps eight, and costs ?1,140 for three nights, and ?2,500 for seven nights.
