International train travel has seriously improved this year. First, Eurostar launched a new high-speed route to Provence, making it possible to reach the beaches of the Cote d’Azur in less than six hours. Blissful. Then, French chef Raymond Blanc put smoked salmon and poached pears on the menu. Delicious.

Now, guests staying in The Chambers – an exclusive members’ club with bedrooms – at St Pancras Renaissance Hotel, which is set within the Gothic building that is part of the station itself, can use its transfer service to whisk them seamlessly from chamber to carriage. St Pancras is London’s only hotel to have permission to take passengers through security, bypassing any queues, and onto the train, up to 30 minutes before departure. The best way to travel to Europe, surely.
