Advent at the Andaz

Advent at the Andaz

Guests and locals who visit the Andaz Liverpool Street hotel can see the unusual work of Beta Tank designer Eyal Burstein as he brings together ceramic bric-a-brac and tasty treats to create a ceramic table advent calendar.

The calendar is the centrepiece in the first of a series of festive ‘Andaz Salons’ which aim to bring together experts, guests, and community neighbours. To create the table, Burstein sourced tea cups, bowls and other trinkets from flea markets and charity shops in nearby Brick Lane and Spitalfields, as well as from Petticoat Lane in west London.

For those more interested in what lays inside the calendar, it “reveals” each day a new pastry treat made by the hotel’s pastry chef from a tea cup or trinket on the table, which is then served to guests with warming drinks.

The hotel’s General Manager Arnaud de Saint Exupery said: ”Christmas is a special time of year at the Hotel and the advent table captures the essence of the season – generosity, warmth and unity. We wanted to create a welcoming area in our Andaz Lounge (lobby) for guests as well as the local community to gather and share the festive spirit.”

Burstein and Valhrona pastry chef Andrew Gravett have taken part in two ‘Andaz Salon’ events this week. On Tuesday December 13 tea master Lalith Lenadora will be holding a tea tasting session, while the following Tuesday December 20 there will be an evening of pairing cognac and chocolate by Hennessy.

Throughout December, Andaz will also offer the ‘Andaz Advent Afternoon Tea’ including mulled wine and a selection of pastries, which will be featured as daily treats on the advent sharing table. For bookings or more information about the Andaz Salons, call the hotel on +44 (0) 207 618 7000.
