Wellness cruise launches in China

Steeped in culture and history, the Three Gorges region is also one of the most beautiful in China. And a new cruise from Sanctuary Retreats promises to be the best way to explore the Yangtze River.

Incorporating sight-seeing and wellness, the cruise takes guests on a 660-kilometre journey through the remote villages of Qutang, Wu and Xiling, stopping at Daoist temples and shrines at Fengdu. The cruise also takes travellers to see the controversial Three Gorges Dam Project.

With a focus on Chinese healing and medicine, guests learn about the benefits of reflexology, acupuncture and cupping from Dr Li Zhi Xing, who will also be available for appointments at the spa. And a Tai Chi master will run morning classes on the observation deck.

Carrying only 124 passengers, the Sanctuary Yangzi Explorer is arguably the most luxurious way to see the Three Gorges, with a luxury spa with six treatment rooms, a two-floor theatre, restaurant and library all on board.

There are nine wellness cruises in June including three-night-downstream and four-night-upstream options, starting from US$1250 per person sharing a cabin. For more information call 0207 190 7739 or visit www.sanctuaryretreats.com
