Great Scott

Abbotsford, the wonderfully romantic home built by Sir Walter Scott on the banks of the River Tweed, is reopening after a multi-million-pound restoration.

From August, though, you can go one better than shuffling around on a day visit, and stay the night in the Hope Scott Wing. As well as seven bedrooms, it has a drawing room, reading room and billiard room furnished with belongings from Scott’s descendants, including Major-General Maxwell- Scott’s roll-top desk and Dame Jean Maxwell-Scott’s Bernstein piano.
