London welcomes The Wellesley

The affluent London district of Knightsbridge is certainly not suffering a shortage of luxury hotels, but the newest addition to the prestigious postcode is sure to stand out nonetheless. The Wellesley, a musical venue turned townhouse hotel, stands by to open its Art Deco-style doors in style this December, combining modern luxury with a glamorous evocation of times gone by.

The boutique 36-room residence has a contemporary take on its 1920s history, with interiors crafted by award-winning designers Fox Linton, the same team behind the West End’s One Aldwych. The decor has been designed to evoke the lavish ornamentation of the Roaring Twenties: crystal chandeliers, mirrored panelling and the kind of geometric lines that would put Gatsby at ease.

The building’s musical legacy will be further felt in the hotel’s Jazz Lounge, with its performance space for both up-and-coming and high-profile artists. Musicians will share the space with the room’s centrepiece, a Jazz Age-appropriate grand piano, whilst residents relax and enjoy afternoon tea or cocktails.

Meanwhile, the Oval Restaurant will serve Italian food in a seriously sophisticated setting. And, outside, a heated cigar terrace will have the UK’s largest bespoke humidor and a range of cigars sold individually, while whiskey and cognac connoisseurs will be pleased to discover an extensive menu of spirits in the Crystal Bar.
