Be part of New York Fashion Week

An exclusive package launched by The Carlyle hotel invites guests to become New York fashion insiders, lunching with designers, attending catwalk shows and even getting a rare glimpse of The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s fashion archives.

Kathleen Beckett, a former columnist for US Vogue, welcomes guests into her world for three days over New York Fashion Week. Aspiring fashionistas can discuss the merits of sharp tailoring versus feminine draping with Donna Karan over lunch, ask Zac Posen about his foray into interior design while sipping cocktails at his studio, and share Champagne with Sophie Theallet.

The Carlyle guests will also have the rare opportunity to attend the Joanna Mastroianni and J Mendel AW/12 shows at the Lincoln Center – seats coveted even among the cream of fashion press – with backstage passes to meet the designers.

After lunching in the Met’s Members Dining Room, guests are treated to a behind-the-scenes tour of the Met’s Antonio Ratti Textile Center. Inside is a treasure trove of artefacts, from fans to shawls.

The fashion-week buzz is contagious and you can get your fix anywhere. Wander down Fashion Avenue, home to design studios, workshops and showrooms; brave 5th Avenue’s designer stores and see future stars – possibly the next Marc Jacobs – sketching designs on the steps of Parsons The New School for Design.

Beckett also runs her own, similar business venture, Friends of Fashion. Members have insider privileges and might get to meet the textile suppliers for Ralph Lauren, or see the highly skilled workers carefully embellishing Carolina Herrera gowns, or receive invitations to fashion’s biggest parties. All profit from the venture is donated to charities helping the less fortunate members of the industry, from seamstresses to pattern-cutters.

‘Inside Haute’, 15 – 18 February 2012, costs $6,000 per person; includes events, chauffeured car service and all meals. Double rooms from $795. For more information and to book, contact Jamie Beck at The Carlyle, 35 East 76th Street, New York (00 1 212 570 7127;
