The new Ritz-Carlton Hotel honours Shanghai’s art deco scene

The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company celebrated the opening of its second hotel in Shanghai yesterday, which has been designed to pay tribute to the Chinese city’s vibrant art deco scene.

The Ritz-Carlton Shanghai, Pudong is the company’s seventh hotel in China, and was developed by Sun Hung Kai Properties – one of Asia’s most renowned property developers.

Perfect for business travellers, the hotel is located in the financial zone of Lujiazui, and boasts a whole floor dedicated to meeting and conference spaces, all of which have been kitted-out in the latest technology and feature floor-to-ceiling glass walls to let in natural sunlight.

Guests may chose from a number of rooms and suites, ranging from 50-square metres right up to 400-square metres in size for the Palatial and Chairman suites. Lavishly furnished, the interior design was masterminded by Richard Farnell, who is renowned for creating practical but luxurious environments.

Perhaps the biggest highlight however is the vast selection of gourmet restaurants and bars: the Aura Lounge, Jazz Bar, Chinese fine dining restaurant Jin Xuan and Italian diner Scena all feature, as does Flair Rooftop Bar and Restaurant, which offers panoramic views of the city’s breathtaking skyline.

After a hard day’s slog over facts and figures, hard-working guests may wish to retire to the 55th floor, where there is an expansive 10-room ESPA spa. The spa offers a particularly luxurious menu of treatments inspired by Chinese, Indian, European and Balinese spa cultures, which use natural oils to stimulate, relax and indulge both mind and body.

Those who love shopping will also enjoy the hotel’s direct access to Shanghai ifc: the city’s biggest mall, which hosts some of the most renowned brands in fashion and entertainment and is just a stone’s throw from the hotel door.
