Free admission to New Yorks best museums

Will you be in New York tomorrow? If so, you must visit the city’s one-day Museum Mile Festival, during which nine of its finest museums will offer free admission.

The celebration will also see car traffic diverted from the 23-block stretch of Fifth Avenue that runs from the Metropolitan Museum of Art at 82nd Street to El Museo del Barrio on 105th Street, so visitors – tourists and locals alike – can enjoy the museums as well as a mile-long street party complete with live music and performances. The Victoria and Albert Museum announced they are to screen a broadcast of the David Bowie is exhibition “live” to over 200 cinemas across the UK.

As we predicted back in October 2012, the exhibition has become the most popular ever at the museum, and has been seen by more than 200,000 visitors. (more…)

A single thief crept into a Paris museum and stole five masterpieces worth over ?431 million last night without so much as sounding the alarm.

World-famous works by artists such as Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse were discovered missing from the Paris Museum of Modern Art at 7am this morning, after a guard spotted a lone masked intruder carefully lifting the paintings out of their frames on the museum CCTV. (more…)
