A pop-up nightclub in central London is making a bold bid for the title of the capital’s hottest nightspot during the Olympic fortnight. Legendary music producer Arthur Baker (New Order, Bruce Springsteen, Afrika Bambaataa) and party impresario Sara Blonstein (Cannes, MTV Awards, BAFTAs) are behind Nightgames – a private members club that will be open for just 12 nights. When we heard news of the forthcoming sailing of the SS Coachella, we weren’t absolutely sure whether to file it under ‘Festivals’, ‘Cruises’ or ‘Glamping’. In what looks set to be an attempt to catch a wave of popularity for all three, this December a floating version of the famous US Coachella music festival will take place on a luxury ocean liner while sailing around the Bahamas and then Jamaica. Anyone travelling to Reykjavik on Icelandair to see Bjork play at this year’s Iceland Airwaves festival will be treated to a private debut of her new album, Biophilia.

The airline is backing homegrown talent by playing Icelandic music as part of its in-flight entertainment system, even before the albums have been released. (more…)
