Eerie recreations of life on board the world’s most famous ship will go on display at London’s O2 arena when Titanic: The Artefact Exhibition opens next month. Visitors will be able to see what life was like on board the world’s largest ship (such as the first class cabin pictured above) before it collided with an iceberg and sank with the loss of more than 1500 lives. The ship’s discovery in the 1970s has been hailed as one of the most important archaeological finds in British history, and the recovery of her hull from the seabed in 1982 is the largest to have ever taken place. Titanic II to set sail in 2016

An Australian billionaire has commissioned a full-sized replica of The Titanic and plans to sail it from London to New York.

The announcement, which comes a few weeks after the centenary of the sinking of the original ship by an iceberg in the North Atlantic, was made today by one of Australia’s richest men, the mining empresario Clive Palmer. (more…)
